The track

For more than 50 years, Charlotte Motor Speedway has set the standard for motorsports entertainment and evolved into “The Greatest Place to See the Race.” Nestled in the heart of NASCAR country, this world-famous 1.5-mile superspeedway is the only race vacation destination where fans can immerse themselves in NASCAR country by attending one-of-a-kind racing events, taking behind-the-scenes speedway and race shop tours, exploring the NASCAR Hall of Fame and driving an 800-horsepower stock car. The track hosts three NASCAR Cup races annually, as well as many other motorsports events and activities for fans of all ages. These include exciting pre-race concerts and a spectacular Memorial Day Weekend celebration, the Coca-Cola 600, Bank of America Roval 400, and more than 3 dozen other events. Tours are available for guests of all ages and abilities, including the Feel the Thrill Speedway Tour, which includes a van ride around the 1.5-mile superspeedway; a picture in Victory Circle; and a behind-the-scenes tour with a knowledgeable guide. Note that previously scheduled time trials and racing events may limit tour availability; call ahead for reservations.

The atmosphere

If you’re looking for a top-notch race vacation, Charlotte Motor Speedway is the place to be. Here you can experience one-of-a-kind race spectacles; take behind-the-scenes speedway and race shop tours; and explore the NASCAR Hall of Fame. The track also has a lot of family-friendly amenities. There are tons of food trucks, souvenir haulers and bounce houses for the kids to enjoy. It’s also home to a long-running uptown street festival that’s now held at the track every May. It features a 10-acre fan zone with driver appearances and interactive games. The speedway was designed by Bruton Smith and Curtis Turner, with groundbreaking for the 1.5-mile superspeedway track in 1959. The racetrack’s construction was accompanied by several innovative features that would help the facility become a world-class venue. These include the construction of new grandstands, large private suites, and corporate amenities like the Speedway Club in the 1970s and 1980s.

The food

The food at Charlotte Motor Speedway is a huge part of the experience. There are many options available, ranging from traditional hot dogs and funnel cakes to gourmet meals and luxury foods. For a more authentic experience, you can also tailgate and participate in pre-race concerts or visit the Fan Zone. There are plenty of activities to choose from, so plan to arrive at least 5-6 hours before the race to get your spot and to have time to enjoy the festivities. For families, there’s always the Speedway Christmas, where millions of LED lights adorn the track during the holidays. It’s a must-see event that begins in mid-November and runs through the first week of December.

The parking

The Charlotte Motor Speedway is one of the most famous race tracks in NASCAR country. It’s a 1.5-mile quad oval track that hosts the Coca-Cola 600 on Memorial Day weekend and the Sprint All-Star Race. There’s a ton of parking at the CMSC – it’s a bit of a walk from the main entrance, but there’s also a shuttle service that will pick you up and drop you off for a minimal fee. The track is also home to the ZMax Dragway – a racing and entertainment complex that consists of a high-speed luge, go-cart course, and a few other things.
